 - Textile art Festival

The Textile Museum of Sweden and the City of Borås are hosting the 2017 European Textile Network Conference. The conference, and a large number of activities within and in the area around Borås, have been organised to present global perspectives on different textile practices with a special focus on sustainable creativity and innovation within textile art and design.

Attend the Conference, discover exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and tours within and outside Borås. This arrangement takes place in collaboration between the Textile Museum of Sweden, European Textile Network, Nordic Textile Art.


Dates and programme

September 12-15, 2017: Pre-conference activities (exhibitions, workshops, textile tours).

September 16-17, 2017: European Textile Network Conference XVIII; main exhibition openings; ETN General Assembly.

September 18-19, 2017: Post-conference activities (exhibitions, workshops, textile tours).

EUROPEAN TEXTILE NETWORK CONFERENCE

The European Textile Network Conference is held in a European country once every two years. This year, the Municipality of Borås and the Textile Museum of Sweden are the hosts. The Textile Museum of Sweden has invited internationally renowned fashion and design trendsetter Lidewij Edelkoort to be the main speaker at the conference, and her lecture will be open to the public. CROSSOVER FESTIVAL

The festival will highlight textile art and display a multitude of expressions, methods, and techniques that are used in the field. A number of exhibitions and activities involving textile art will also be held in art venues both within (many in public places) and in the area around Borås.

The first exhibition will open at the Textile Museum of Sweden on May 6, and aims to put the spotlight on international contemporary art with textile elements through the Equation exhibition of Azerbaijani artist Faig Ahmed. During the festival, the Everyday Matter exhibition, organised by Nordic Textile Art, will be held at the Textile Museum of Sweden.

During the festival period, a number of exhibitions of textile art will be held within and in the area around Borås.
- The Rydal Museum will be showing the work of artists from Nordic Art Sweden, the Johtolanka/Narrative Thread exhibition created by Finnish textile artists, and a pop-up exhibition which is the work of members of Nordic Textile Art. Nordic Art Sweden exhibition starts on the 14th of September, Johtolanka/Narrative Thread exhibition starts on the 3rd of June. 
- The Borås Museum will show the group exhibition Letter to my dear by the artists Lennart Grebbelius, Jeanette Schäring, Peter Ojstersek, and Hannah Streefkerk. Its theme is sustainability, and features both indoor and outdoor elements. Starts on the 10th of June.
- The Abecita Art Museum will show works by this year’s winner of the Nordic Award in Textiles, Grethe Sørensen. Starts on the 16th of September.
- The Ålgården Artists’ Workshops and Gallery will show the Sutur – Ihopasytt/Ten artists interpreting time in stitches exhibition. Starts on the 9th of September. 
- The Janette Öhlund Gallery will show the work of the ‘glass rebel’ of our time, Fredrik Nielsen, along with that of Britta Carlström of Fiber Art Sweden. Starts on the 14th of September.
- The Flaménska gården gallery will show textile work by the artist Jonathan Josefsson, whose roots lie in the world of graffiti. Starts on the 9th of September.
- The Vävkompaniet handicraft shop will show the Gjord av din hand 2.0/Handmade 2.0 exhibition. Starts on the 2nd of September.
- No Limit (street art) plans to show art with textile elements. Starts on the 3rd of September.

 

NORDIC AWARD IN TEXTILES

This year’s winner of the Nordic Award in Textiles, Grethe Sørensen, will receive her award during the dinner held during the festival. The City of Borås will host the event and act as the representative of the conference .

Thursday, September 14
14:00 - 15:30 Guided tour of the art venues of the festival. Assemble at the Textile Fashion Center. Free entry.
14:00 - 15:30 Guided tour of the Equation and Everyday Matter exhibitions at the Textile Museum of Sweden. Assemble at the reception desk. Entrance fee: 50 SEK.

Friday, September 15
14:00 - 15:30 Guided tour of the art venues of the festival. Assemble at the Textile Fashion Center. The tour ends at the Ålgården Artists’ Workshops and Gallery, and continues with a meet and greet with the textile artists. Free entry.

14:00 - 15:30 Guided tour of the Equation and Everyday Matter exhibitions at the Textile Museum of Sweden. Assemble at the reception desk. Entrance fee: 50 SEK.

15:00 - 16:00 Lecture: Textile Art and Graffiti by Jonathan Josefsson. Location: Flaménska gården. Free entry.

15:30 - 18:00 Textile artist meet and greet. Location: Ålgården Artists’ Workshops and Gallery. Free entry.

Saturday, September 16
10:00 - 11:00 Lecture: Talking Textiles by Lidewij Edelkoort, the internationally renowned fashion and design trendsetter and Dean of Hybrid Studies at New Parsons School of Design, New York - Paris. Information about ticket sales and pricing will be published soon.

14:00 Opening of the Everyday Matter exhibition, organised by Nordic Textile Art .

16:00 Opening of the exhibition by Grethe Sørensen, the winner of this year’s Nordic Award in Textiles. Location: Abecita Art Museum.

Sunday, September 17
14:00 The artist Faig Ahmed will introduce the Equation exhibition at the Textile Museum of Sweden. Entrance fee: 50 SEK
