Maja Michaelsdotter Eriksson

Large-scale, sculptural, and colourful.
A cat, an egg, a placenta. The artist Maja Michaelsdotter Eriksson portrays everyday objects using the textile technique of tufting. By playing with scale and placement, she presents a contrasting layer of meaning and often highlights the comical and absurd aspects of the world.

Maja’s work shows her striking fascination with all that lives, our biological bodies and organs of flesh and blood, and the complexity of our minds. Her works are often devoted to topics that are considered to be heavy or problematic, and which are explored in her work with an honesty that, more than anything else, celebrates the power of life.

Maja lives and works in Malmö, Sweden, where she has her own tufting studio.

Her work has been recognised through awards such as Ung Svensk Form (‘Young Swedish Design’), and her pieces have been shown in both individual and joint exhibitions in Sweden and abroad.

Since 2019, Maja has collaborated with the ‘Misschiefs’ project, and alongside Paola Bjäringer produced works for specific exhibitions.
