Artist Textiles –
Picasso to Warhol

A unique opportunity; peek through the crack in the door, in to a private collection of around 200 rare works of textile art. Discover the previously unknown history behind the textile patterns of a number of internationally renowned artists, including Matisse, Chagall, Miró, Dali and many more.

In the early 20th century, a movement took shape among progressive artists who wanted to democratise art. Their ideas were connected to modernism and to the industrialisation and democratisation of society. Through a combination of art and mass production, all citizens were to be offered the opportunity to have a masterpiece in their homes. Textile printing was the perfect method to use in order to spread high-quality modern art to all. The works of textile art were first printed on lengths of fabric to be hung up, but soon developed into products such as garments and furniture.

In this exhibition, a unique private collection of around 200 textile prints, produced between the 1920s and the 1970s, is on display. Fabric lengths, clothes and accessories, among other things, with patterns by internationally renowned artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Miró, Dali, Delaunay, Warhol, etc. are exhibited. Many of the fabrics are very rare and have never been exhibited to the public before. Artist Textiles is an international travelling exhibition produced by the Fashion and Textile Museum of London, which has undertaken extensive research into the interesting history behind these fabrics.
