Collections

Borås Museum and the Textile Museum have a shared collection of museum artefacts. The collection provides valuable sources to knowledge about the cultural history of Borås and the Sjuhärad region.

The collection consist of about 100 000 items and is kept at the Textile Museum and in other storage facilities. The staff that work with the collections have their workplace at the Textile Museum.

Donating items to the collections

Do you have objects that you wish to donate to the museum? Our collections are already quite large and we must therefore be restrictive about what we acquire. Please do not leave items to us without having contacted us on beforehand. You are welcome to contact us:

Photos and archive

Borås Museum’s and the Textile Museum’s shared archive is kept at the Textile Museum. The archive consist of local historical documents from Borås and the Sjuhärad region, newpaper clippings, documentation of local textile industry, photographs, and other documents donated to the museum.

The buildings at Borås Museum

The open-air museum in Ramnaparken was created to preserve buildings that represent the history in the local Sjuhärad region.

The buildings were collected as a reaction to the fast-changing society during industrialization. Traditional agrarian architecture and building techniques were considered endangered. The museum thus became a way to preserve the traditions for the future.

Some of the buildings were changes in details when moved they were here. Other have changes since then. Therefore, it is not always easy to decide what should be considered as the original design.

Most of the buildings are owned by the organization De Sju Häradernas Kulturhistoriska Förening, while Borås municipality administer the buildings.

During opening hours at the Borås Museum, a selection of buildings are open and free for you to visit. If you want to know more about the buildings, you are welcome to contact the museum staff.
